Pre-production and filming

On the 18th of Feb I did filming for my created multimedia company' s promotional video. Before the actual filming we needed to fill in all the pre-production paperwork what I have posted below. It included story board and detailed shot list amongst other location and team describing papers.

I chose to use just a camera and record no sound. I am planning to add quite a lot (titles, effects, sound, CGI) later in editing phase.
During filming I used my knowledge of different shooting angles and types. As well the knowledge about the use of equipment. For example, how to use lighting to loose any shadows or white balancing the camera. I also learned that on filming you need to consider everything from background, reflections to the natural and room lights to not get any distractions on your footage.
On my teams filming session we used different ways to shoot - from point of view angle, filming on the move. During that we tried to follow all the health & safety procedures - we were careful with cables laying on the floor, making sure that anyone wasn't tripping on the wires on move and dealing with lights we hold them from their legs to make sure nobody gets burnt.

Analyzing promotional videos

As our assignment stated we needed to analyze some promotional videos. I choose three quite different ones and fourth one as a bonus track in the end.
My first video is for company called CNA Host and they are web hosting company who also provides different social media services.
I choose this video for first because I wanted to start my analyze from the most conventional one. Its style was completely promotional and advertising. The video itself was modern and and quite fast paced. There wasnt any presenters and video was built up to titles and CGI.
Titles used quite a lot of editing effects by coming in from the screen and widening slowly out. CGI was used to bring out the companies name and the examples of their work.
Video had a story what in the beginning promises viewer to express their selves more by using CNA help on hosting a web site. Then its takes you through all the examples of their services and ends in stating how to connect with CNA.
They have used usual modern instrumental background music what suites well with the videos pace.
Few flaws that caught my eye were: too long ending and too small writing used in the middle of the video. Video is 1:16 sec long and 20 sec from the end we can see very slowly how one can connect with CNA`s different social media sites - that was slightly annoying.

My second video belongs to advertising agency called The Zimmerman Agency. Videos length is 46 sec.
As in previous video here isn´t any presenters as well, all is built up on a catchy fast paced music and story what appears on the screen in different sentences.
There is used some editing effects on moving titles horizontally, vertically and making them fade in and out. There is no examples of their work cause as said before the video relies on a story. Story makes people ask their selves a question - do they really need a another advertising agency or just great ideas?
The music used in background is quite well known and I think its is a soundtrack from a well known song.
Long story short (as the video was) I really liked this video, cause it delivers the message quickly and it stands out and stays in your memory.

My third video belongs to a Lithuanian graphic design studio. Videos length is 1:36 sec.
I choose this as my third one because it had everything you can ask for - animation, CGI, titles, examples of work, editing effects (on frames and titles). In my opinion this all together was too much and overpowering.

This very modern video started with animated logo flying in which took viewer to showing examples of their work and that worked itself through to showing in the end what else in services wise the company has to offer. Although it had a story I felt that these two ends didnt mix together properly and felt that one video had two different styles (breaking point was about 1:10 sec).
They had used a song for their background music, what was fast and made the video go by faster as well.

My bonus track is published by European Commission and is promotional video to attract women to career of science. Think everybody can decide their selves how successful this was ;)
